Nice, heavy machete which fits great in the hand -

11 July 2020
I bought this machete to go with my outdoor adventuring kit as the old SOG I had was a good machete but a bit flimsy and I wanted something that would tackle heavier logs. Well, the Cold Steel beast met my needs for sure and is much heavier than the SOG machete and blade-heavy for better heft. The handle is nicely curved and the lips on the quillon and pommel mean it sits nicely in the hand and resists slipping - good for a heavier blade such as this. I must be honest though in that I'll craft a paracord strap for the hole in the pommel that will go round my wrist in case of slips in wet weather - safety first as deep, accidental cuts in the wilderness from a stray machete are obviously to be avoided... The blade was very sharp out of the box and the whole blade was oiled which is a must for the high carbon steels such as the 1055's. The scabbard is heavy-duty vinyl and the secure pop-studs keep it all snug and secure. In short this is a great machete that is clearly going to last a while and the thicker blade steel means you have some weight to each swing - great for short work of logs and thick branches.
